Xena is a beautiful, 5 year old, Tri-color, female St Bernard who is very tall at 34" at the shoulder and 130 lbs. She is housetrained and she has learned basic commands including sit, stay and down, although she is still a little reluctant to follow directions when she really just wants to be petted. She is wonderful with cats and children of all ages and warms up quickly to smaller dogs. Xena is more intimidated by other large dogs and dogs that approach her without warning so she's not such a great dog-park dog but leashed dogs that she can meet slowly and properly she is okay with! She loves tummy and ear rubs, snuggling, kissing chins, car rides and leaning in for lovin! All she really wants is lots of love, something she didn't get in her earlier life.
Xena has a torn cruciate ligament in her left knee and a partial tear in her right knee. She has been progressing wonderfully with light physical therapy, although she absolutely refuses to go anywhere near water and seems quite scared of water so swimming is out. She enjoys short walks and playing in the yard for exercise. She has learned to work with her injuries and is so much more mobile now than when she came to us that she can even go up and down stairs now, although slowly.
Xena will be undergoing TPLO surgery on her left knee on 3/26/12 and will then be available for adoption.
