Shepard - Great Dane (new to rescue - under evaluation)

My name is Shepard, and I am the hand signal king! I'm a 5-year-old, Harlequin, male Great Dane, and I am deaf. That doesn't stop me at all, because I know the hand signals for "sit," "down," "come," "shake," "speak," "leave it," "drop it," "kennel," and even "high five!" Pretty impressive, huh? I'm a smart boy. I am even used to a vibration collar for recall purposes. So why am I looking for a new home? I used to live with three cats, a toddler, and a female French Mastiff. The household was pretty active, and the female dog and I got into some disagreements over the years, mainly about food. But feeding us separately seemed to work pretty well. That said, with the new baby in the house and things still kind of unsettled, my former owner thought it best that I find a home more suited for me and my needs. That sounds great to me! So let's talk more about the good stuff. I've been gastropexied, I'm house-trained, crate-trained, and leash-trained. I'm trustworthy with free roam of the house and I'll bark only to alert. I don't dig or chew, and I like car rides, balls, plastic "sticks" and ice cubes. Yes, ice. Om-nom-nom…  I'm okay with cats, good with some dogs that are more submissive and non-reactive (but here again, feeding separately is likely best), and older kids would probably work best with me instead of the little ones. They're too easy to topple over and misunderstand me and my needs, you know? Oh, and nail trims. Yuck. Do not like. I know they're necessary, but I'm a work-in-progress with the nails. That said, I'm a wonderful guy who is really smart and looking for a "hand" (see what I did there?) to lead me to a new life.
