Durga - Great Dane Mix (new to rescue - under evaluation)

Durga is a very pretty, 1 year old, black/brindle Great Dane mix that has led a rough life so far and has landed her where she is.. a blessing in disguise. Durga was not socialized as a puppy and has been abused as well, so she has some fear aggression issues that her foster family will be working on with her in order to help her relax and gain confidence and allow her to be a puppy again. This sweet girl has already been in doggy jail quite a few times and this hasn't helped Durga in the slightest. She needs some time to warm up to new people, dogs, and situations and will need a patient owner willing to go slow with her. She demonstrated excellent play skills with other dogs while in the shelter but does have a history of issues over food in her last home so would suggest slow introductions, separation initially, and feeding separately, which is a very easy fix. Her ideal home would be feline free and no children. She is, however, house trained, crate trained and leash trained. Durga is a perfect example of both the necessity of positively socializing your puppy and why attending obedience classes that use positive reinforcement are necessary when your dog is scared and insecure and not sure how to behave. We truly believe "Every Big Dog Deserves a Chance" and we are excited to see this sweetheart bloom in our care.
